Native Art Throw - Spindle Whorl

Native Indian Throw - Spindle Whorl The design is representative of artwork carved on spindle whorls by the Salish people. Whorls were traditionally used by Coast Salish women to spin and ply mountain goat wool into yarn for weaving. A whorl is a weight placed on a wooden spindle, used to prevent wool from falling off the rod as it is being spun. The Thunderbird is believed to be a mystical bird responsible for causing thunder and lightning and the Salmon is a source of food and inner strength. Design by Debra Sparrow.
